Mitigating Human-Carnivore Conflicts in the Western US and Eastern Colombia
Conflict between large carnivores and ranching livelihoods is a persistent challenge to carnivore conservation and management. Wildlife managers require effective tools to reduce the impacts to ranching livelihoods while ensuring the persistence of large carnivores. In this seminar, I will draw on examples of conflict reduction practices for wolves and grizzlies in the Western United States and jaguars in Eastern Colombia to mitigate livestock losses, quantify human behaviors, and bring value to large carnivore presence. I hope to demonstrate how the integration of ecological and social dimensions of human-wildlife
